The effects of children in Poverty

Poverty is a huge problem all over the world. Poverty has so many effects on a young child such as child labor, not getting an education or even sexual trafficking. Half of the world, over three billion people live on less than $2.50 a day. 27-28% of children in the world are underweight. 25,000 children die everyday due to poverty. Since children do not get enough food they lack in nutrition. Since parents are unable to collect enough money for their children to go to school they do not get an education. In the 21st century, nearly a billion people are not able read a book or sign their names.

There are 2.2 billion children in the world and 1 billion of them are stuck in poverty. 121 million children in the world also do not get an education. 1.4 million children die each year due to the lack of water, food
and shelter. Could you ever imagine yourself
being in their shoes? In America, we are spoiled we get almost everything we want. We get a free education from K-12 grade. While for the parents in other countries have to pay for their children to get an education. Even the poor people here in America still get an education, we take things for granted here. In South Asia there are 706 families living without electricity in their homes because t
hey cannot afford it. In Sub-Saharan Africa there are 547 families that live without electricity as well.

School on water

In Bangladesh, children finally have the opportunity to get an education. There are 144 million people that live in Bangladesh and it just happens to be one of the poorest countries in the world. 40% of people in Bangladesh survive on less than a dollar a day. Parents have always wanted to give their children the best education that they can get yet there have been so many floods that fill the schools, which obviously causes problems. Since there have been problems, a man unfortunately, I am not aware of his name, decided to create a boat where children can ride on the boat and get an education. This helps children boost their knowledge and become successful. This boat has so many advantages, children can get an education even if there is a flood. In the past, 4,000 schools in Bangladesh had been flooded and 44 schools had been destroyed.

Parents in Bangladesh never really supported their children going to school because they did not want their children to be distant from them. Now that there are school boats, parents are more likely to let their kids go off and get an education because they know that their children will come back home.

Children now have the dream to want to go to a University.

This boat has become such an success that children have actually gone to the library boat to study. They read books after hours when school is actually over. They use lanterns for light so that they can read. This school boat is a huge success to the children of Bangladesh.

Three Cups of Tea

Three cups of tea is a story about a man named Greg Mortenson and his journey throughout Pakistan and other countries. This man has set up 55 schools in other countries so that children can receive an education. All of this had started on his journey to Pakistan, Greg wanted to go to a K-2 mountain in Pakistan so that he could drop off his sister's necklace in memory of her death. As he was traveling he had fell behind because there was an injured man on the trail so he decided to help him. As he was helping he fell off track and went into a village those villagers helped him recover himself because he had been exhausted. As he was there he noticed that the children were not getting an education. He decided to fly back to America and try to raise as much money as he can to set up schools in Asia and the middle east. He achieved his goal by setting up 55 schools.

This book has made a huge impact on me. Its not everyday that someone would just give up everything they have so that children in another country could get an education. I find it fascinating that fate had brought Greg to do these things. Fate was the reason that all of this happened. I find that Greg is a brave person for what he has done. I know that people have the strive that he does yet they do not know where to begin. It all begins with the motivation and courage that you have within yourself. Greg had a lot of courage and strength to do what he did, he was actually abducted one time in Afghanistan and it still amazes me that he has not given up on giving people in other countries the education that they deserve. All I can say is that Greg Mortenson is a brave person and we should really look up to him as an example of a true hero.
